Defying mother nature

This being California, and California being prone to earthquakes, buildings have good contingency support structures. This is also true for the Staples Convention Center. In this picture you can see various support beam structures, designed to hold a transparent roof section in place.

This particular building has also been used as a futuristic setting in dozens of movies. For example, it serves as the airport in 'Men in Black'.
