The farming Dutchman Taking care of row after row of apple trees is the immigrant farmer Henry van Oostrum, who moved into the Annapolis Valley (aptly nicknamed Apple Valley) in the 1950s, from Holland. The first thing Mr van Oostrum commented on, after learning that the curious photographer was from Finland, was the recent Finnish team's victory over the Canadian team in the Junior Ice Hockey World Championships. Not surprising; this is Canada, and ice hockey the national sport, after all (yes, I considered claiming I was from a country other than Finland in the days after the match :-)).
