Frostification

With an average precipitation level of 134 cm (53 inches) per year, and with some of the heaviest yearly rainfall along the Atlantic coast, Nova Scotians enjoy quite a bit of snow in the winters.

This photo was taken on a day when strong winds kept sweeping snow from the nearby fields over the small rural roads. This created some problems for drivers too accustomed to non-slippery salted roads. Shortly after taking this image, I was approached by a 4x4 truck, which seemed to be driving a bit too fast for the prevailing road conditions. My worst concerns came true, as moments later I could only see the rear end of the 4x4 poking up from a roadside ditch.

Fortunately, the driver wasn't hurt, and towing help was close at hand, as a majority of the families living in the rural areas own 4x4 pickups, SUVs or ATVS of some kind.
